Spatial Audio Network Germany
Spatial Audio/ 3D Audio is a key technology in the digital transformation of the music industry. The innovative medium forms a new branch in the cultural and creative sector, especially in capacity building for a new ecosystem of studios, venues, booking agencies, labels and musicians. The Spatial Audio Network Germany project is dedicated to this topic and pursues two core objectives:
1. the creation of common standards for concerts to enable touring, which will be developed in so-called think tanks by a consortium of experts within two conferences in Berlin and Leipzig.
2. the goal is the further education of musicians from pop and jazz through coaching in Berlin, Mannheim and Leipzig, which will be selected through a nationwide competition. Based on innovative technology, the project creates new structures in the music industry and actively contributes to the further development of the content of light music.

OPEN CALL:
Spatial Audio Mentoring and Workshop Program for Pop an Jazz Musicians in Berlin, Leipzig und Neustadt
Since the introduction of Dolby Atmos Music, it has become possible for artists to release music albums in Spatial Audio format on mainstream platforms. However, many established concepts and artistic practices are radically challenged with spatial audio. In order to bring the immersive effect to full fruition, spatial audio must be part of the artistic process from the very beginning. This also requires appropriate know-how about the specific workflows, tools and technologies. In order to enable a low-threshold entry, players from the field of music can apply for a three-part coaching and consulting program, in which ideas and concepts for spatial audio projects are accompanied from both a design and technical perspective.
Spatial Audio / 3D Audio is the medium of the future in the field of music. Behind the term are innovative techniques for creating and recreating acoustic virtual realities. They enable a new dimension of listening and collective concert experience, which have in common that they are immersive: Audiences are immersed in the emerging three-dimensional spaces with sound coming from all directions and holistically experience an acoustic virtual reality. 3D Audio fundamentally rethinks the paradigms of audio production and musical content creation: from miking, signal processing, tools for composition, mixing, export formats, their distribution, as well as the entire field of live performance.
Since the break, the awareness of spatial audio is also developing in broad audiences in the pop and jazz fields. Currently, major labels are mixing many albums in spatial audio to immediately become part of the new market. In order to have its full impact, spatial audio must be part of the compositional process from the beginning and democratized. The lack of know-how among musicians around the very young audio format is a problem here, which is due to a lack of knowledge and exchange, lack of infrastructure as well as few standardized interfaces and additional production effort.
SANG MENTORING AND WORKSHOP PROGRAM
For musicians, booking agencies, venues and labels, the SANG offers a total of 18 consultations of 3 units each to support the entry into Spatial Audio. The coaching sessions are offered by active composers, producers, promoters and technical experts of ZiMMT e.V., Spaes and MediaApes GmbH and can be attended in the production facilities and studios in Berlin, Leipzig and Neustadt as well as remotely via video call. The available expertise from various fields makes it possible to tailor the consultations precisely to the needs of the inquiries and to select suitable consultants.
The consulting program offers technical insights and an introduction to 3D audio technologies, hardware and software. Practical training phases in professional 3D audio production studios offer first hands-on experience and listening experiences on high-quality multi-channel studio monitor systems with professional supervision.
The coaching sessions can include the following components, among others:
The mentoring and workshop program is free of charge for participants. Possible travel, accommodation and food costs have to be paid by the participants themselves.
Aplication Deadline: 15.02.2023
